Abstract

This Capstone explores the ways in which member driven organizations can increase and retain members. Action-based research methodology was used to collect data from member driven organizations. Membership Directors and/or Executive Directors answered a questionnaire in order to show what experts in the field say about increasing and retaining membership. That information and insights were applied to the primary research venue, the Greater Portsmouth Chamber of Commerce (GPCC). Over a three-month period projects and programs were implemented at the Chamber in order to grow the membership and retain current members. The projects and programs were created in response to what the experts saw as best practices. The research and conclusions that are achieved in this Capstone lead to new knowledge in the field. This new knowledge can be applied to member driven organizations. Member driven organizations struggle with: how to get new members while retaining existing ones? This Capstone answers that question and provides several different ways member driven organizations can overcome that challenge.
