Abstract

My research focuses on the International Education Professionals (IEPs) who specifically work in international students and scholars and/or study abroad offices in higher education institutes in Massachusetts, USA. I used the exploratory research approach as my methodology to explore current IEPs’ experiences, perceptions and values on internships. I collected my data using online surveys and conducting in-person interviews. The ultimate purpose of this study is to assert the importance of internships for young professionals as a hands-on experience when starting a career in IE. Overall, the responses from current IEPs were mostly positive as many of them placed a high value on internships for graduate students. However, there were varied opinions whether internships have a decisive role in one’s ability to enter the field. The key to entering the field was whether an individual was passionate about the IE field or not.
