Land of a Thousand Hills: Socioeconomic Development in Post-Conflict Rwanda

Publication Date

2007

Abstract

Crooked Trails seeks to expand its education abroad opportunities with the introduction of a new thematic program in the subject area of socioeconomic development. This four-week, short-term study abroad program was developed in partnership with Western Washington University and is scheduled to take place in Rwanda during August and September of 2008. Land of a Thousand Hills: Socioeconomic Development in Post-Conflict Rwanda is based upon sound theories of international education, such as experiential learning, and also employs the use of a new philosophical approach, appreciative inquiry. Throughout this program, students will meet, work, study and live with local Rwandans, thus furthering Crooked Trails mission to help people “broaden their understanding of the planet and its diverse cultures though education, community development and responsible travel” (“Crooked Trails,” Mission Statement section, 2006).
