Abstract

A study was conducted at Claudino Faro, an agriculture community in Sao Tome. It was chosen among five communities of Agua Ize plantation, where the poverty alleviation through rural development program took place.

The aim of the study was to analyze, what impact a development project geared for alleviating poverty makes in the quality of life of people where such projects are implemented.

Due to the context, the case study approach was found the most appropriate way to be used in this study.

After an in depth interview with several members of the community, the research concluded that the project “Poverty alleviation through rural development” in the long term did not have any positive impact on the quality of life of the community of Claudino Faro.
