Abstract

The role of women has historically been one of the minority in the world of sports. Women have been excluded culturally and by society for a long time and have not had access to all the benefits of sport in the same way that men have had it. Like gender, the role of social class is also significant in how it functions within the sport context. In various sports, such as football or boxing, sport represents an opportunity to be successful that results in an ascendancy down the ladder of social class. This research is about observing, investigating and analyzing the functioning of gender and social class in the world of sports in an ethnographic way. It focuses specifically on the neighborhood of San Telmo in the Southeast of the city of Buenos Aires, Argentina. Presents the world of this vulnerable neighborhood with a focus on some sports clubs that belong to him. This paper describes some clubs in San Telmo, concentrating on the Giuffra Sports Club in particular. In addition to describing this club, he will also tell the story of the thoughts and perspectives of several people who belong to him. Among them, several moms of soccer players and girls that compete in the female hockey team of the club, the soccer coach and the president of the club. I will also tell the story and the opinions of a fascinating woman named Isabel. Isabel is the owner of a pizzeria history and well known in the neighborhood of San Telmo and is also the second woman in the history of San Telmo Club Atletico who has managed to be part of the club's board of directors. I had the pleasure of talking with her about her special story and about her thoughts on women's sports and the accessibility of sports in her neighborhood.
