Intercultural Interactions

Abstract

Many skills are involved in intercultural interactions. One method to increase effective intercultural communication is "Double-Loop Thinking". This method is a means of analyzing critical incidents between persons of two different cultures. Stated simply, Double-Loop Thinking is "taking on the other's perspective." During this training, participants will identify with one of two individuals who experience a critical incident. The participant is asked to distinguish between facts and inferences made by the individual whose identity they take on, as well as the other individual as a means to see the incident impartially and correctly, his role in the incident and the values influencing his behavior during the incident .
