Abstract

This research aimed to explore the different manifestations of globalization’s impact on Catholic and Protestant student movements in Toulouse, France. To accomplish this investigation, the researcher sought the opinions of students who participate regularly in religious groups regarding the cultural diversity of their group and their concept of a global Christian community. Based on information gathered in interviews, the researcher concluded, though not definitively, that Catholic and Protestant student groups both experience the effects of globalization, but each in a manner in relation with their faith’s organizational structure: Catholic students felt close ties with other Catholic groups worldwide despite the limited presence of cultural diversity within their parish while Protestant students felt a strong international presence within their ethnically diverse group. Cette recherche avait l’intention d’explorer les manifestations différentes des effets de la globalisation sur les groupes des étudiants catholiques et protestants à Toulouse, France. Pour réaliser cette enquête, la chercheuse a demandé les avis des étudiants qui participent habituellement aux groupes religieux à propos de la diversité culturelle dans les groupes et les perspectives des groupes par rapport du christianisme au niveau mondial. Selon l’information qui était gagné pendant les entretiens, la chercheuse a déterminé que bien qu’il n’était pas possible d’avoir une conclusion définitive, on peut dire que les groupes catholiques et protestants en France connaissent des conséquences de la mondialisation, mais pas de la même manière :chez les catholiques, la mondialisation se perçoit comme la possibilité d’unifier toutes les communautés ecclésiales réparties dans le monde ; chez les protestants, la mondialisation se perçoit davantage comme la possibilité de s’ouvrir sur la diversité culturelle.
