Life in a rural community can often seem boring and isolating for youth. It is not uncommon to feel like people are just waiting for you to “grow up.” Yet, whether acknowledged or not, youth have the potential to be one of the greatest assets to any community. One way to support their assets is through volunteerism. This inquiry examines the motivations of youth volunteers within a small, rural community and explores whether volunteerism has had an effect on their lives. Additionally, the research looks into whether the potential affects on the youth volunteers has also affected their social capital.
