Abstract
Introduction (excerpt): In 1992, I began employment as Job Developer at the Hispanic Center of Greater Danbury. The Center functioned with a small yet dynamic staff of six serving over five thousands clients yearly. Each staff person had a distinct area in which they specialized but overall we functioned in the capacity as translators and referral agents for Hispanics with low level language skills needing to access social services, medical care, employment, or legal assistance. The Center was formed in 1968 to meet the needs of the Danbury Hispanic population which was then predominately Puerto Rican. Then the Center's role in the community was principally that of a civic organization.
