Abstract

The Cooperative Association of States for Scholarship (CASS) Residential Life Program at Florida Community College at Jacksonville (FCCJ) has been designed to give substance and form to the "alternative living" component of the overall CASS project. Georgetown University, which administers the CASS program nationwide, places an emphasis on this component of the program. As Georgetown states, "By the end of the first year in the U.S., the CASS program expects that the students will be in college dormitories or alternative living situations." At the same time, Georgetown accepts that, "...in the past, participating colleges have taken a broad range of approaches..." to the alternative living component. In other words, CASS/Georgetown allows each college to develop its own definition of the alternative living component.
