Abstract
A review of established service-learning or community focused centers at institutions of higher education in regards to the context of management and leadership of programs. Through qualitative interviews of six campuses it is clear that successful management tactics are used sparsely or incongruently and could be aligned to better address undergraduate student development needs while addressing real community issues locally and globally. To prepare undergraduates as responsible global citizens institutions of higher education and professional staff must focus strategically on the means in which they try to accomplish this. Recommendations for strategic management frameworks appropriate for use in higher education centers, that include service-learning but may not be solely devoted to, are offered in regards to literature and findings. In addition, the audience will gain an understanding of service-learning in higher education through a review of literature.
