Abstract
An enterprising community college in Lakewood, Colorado offers fully paid international professional development experiences for faculty, but in what ways does this program affect the campus? The author explores the roles of professional development abroad at Red Rocks Community College through interviews and employee surveys. Six main purposes are identified, each with positive and negative effects on the campus community. The study also examines for whom and how the professional development abroad program should be implemented. The author concludes that by applying basic principles of high-quality professional development and interactive planning techniques, this innovative program can have almost entirely positive effects on campus.
