Abstract
This research project is a case study of the Tenant Support Project (TSP), a supportive housing program serving four buildings on the north side of Chicago. The primary research question is as follows: What specific services and resources should the Tenant Support Project offer that will be most successful in preventing homelessness for tenants of the TSP buildings? Through semi-structured interviews with ten people (five who were homeless at the time of the interviews and five who were TSP clients), the researcher collected data regarding the major factors causing homelessness and the way clients view, understand, and use TSP services. The data suggests the following recommendations for TSP. TSP should offer services related to the major causes of homelessness, including relationship problems, employment problems and substance abuse issues. TSP should also concentrate on advocacy with benefit agencies and building management because tenants are particularly vulnerable in these areas This research project is a case study of the Tenant Support Project (TSP), a supportive housing program serving four buildings on the north side of Chicago.
