Abstract
Abstract
This paper is divided into four chapters. The first chapter provides an introduction to the issues that relate to the management of multicultural diversity within an international organization. It also outlines the objectives of the paper, as well as the overall strategy for achieving them by linking personal experiences with the literature on effective multicultural teams, diverse team conflict, international organizations, and intercultural communications. The second chapter reviews the literature on the dynamics of multicultural and diverse teams in an international organizational context. The third chapter focuses on two case studies that are based upon my personal experiences, acquired from working within multicultural teams during my graduate school career, and also at an international organization (The UNDP). The final chapter presents a comparative analysis of my personal experiences in the field with theoretical concepts learned in graduate school, as well as from the literature. The chapter concludes with recommending strategies for effectively managing diversity within teams, in order to achieve an organizational climate of multicultural synergy.
