Abstract
Considering that the multiculturalism movement has become more and more prevalent and is claimed to positively affect students, what happens when students from other countries decide to study at these higher education institutions? Such a movement may be something that is foreign to international students. Additionally, considering that international students may not be familiar with the concept of a US higher education campus, the American culture, and have fluency difficulties, the multiculturalism movement may affect international students negatively. To answer the main question: Are Duke University international students familiar with the multiculturalism movement? and to assess the current international students' familiarity with the multiculturalism movement, I have rendered a literature review, but more importantly I have executed an empirical study of the international students population at Duke University. I have established that international students are not so familiar with the multiculturalism movement, and I have also assessed that the multiculturalism movement is not welcoming to international students.
