Abstract
The purpose of the study was to look at the role of the World Education Network in enhancing farmers’ participation in the decision-making process in irrigation management in the Way Seputih Irrigation System, Lampung Tengah, Lampung, Indonesia. The case study approach was used to undertake this research project. Several methods of data collection were used in this case study, including (1) document review, (2) in-depth interviews, (3) focus group discussions, and (4) observations. The findings indicate that the role of the World Education Network program has significantly improved farmers’ knowledge and skills in technical and socio-economic problem solving in irrigation management in the Way Seputih Irrigation System, Lampung Tengah, Lampung. The program has also provided farmers with a strong network, which they can use to address policy issues; this is the 'self-help' component within the program. With the knowledge and skills, gained from the program, the farmers who participated in it were better able to participate in decision-making processes involving their work and, were able to work toward improving their lives.
