Abstract

First, I began to see violence campaigns against women on the streets, where women had bruises on their faces and there was a telephone number to help. Then one night I would tell her crying to my host mother in Chile, reliving my past and at the same time she relived his. She taught me that "crying is the cleansing of the soul" as well as the importance of sharing my story. Later, on a visit to a school I see a girl playing happily with the other children while talking to the school psychologist who informed me that 10% had been sexually abused and another 30% had been physically abused.

After this experience during my fieldwork for a week in Chapod, witness how women brought forth their family and community without much help from men. Speaking to a woman who has worked for women's rights in many countries in Latin America and even Texas, she emphasized the importance of including men in the struggle for women's rights. Of all agencies for women in Argentina, she is one of only seven who work with both abusers and abused.

While in Argentina I met a woman so passionate about equality that I believed that the future of girls can change for the better, in a conversation while we drank tea with the Minister of the National Council of Women in Argentina. This Council acts to ensure that the right to equality between the sexes is respected throughout society.

The combination of these strong women in South America showed me that I was not alone. In fact, there are hundreds of thousands of other women who continue to be abused here in Latin America. However, women everywhere are working hard to change the fate of women towards equality and anti-discrimination.

In the following essay, I want to expose my experience with feminism and machismo in Buenos Aires, Santiago and Temuco, and through the use of national statistics, find effective maneuvers to promote equality in my home state of Texas and finally share my story with The world to help other women count and value their own history.
