Abstract
La promoción de la alfabetización en los niños y los adultos, se observa alrededor de todo el mundo. Organizaciones a niveles locales, nacionales e internacionales han surgido para combatir el problema del analfabetismo. Parece que aquí en Bolivia, también se han visto desafíos en crear una cultura de lectura en los niños, tanto dentro como fuera de la escuela. A través de entrevistas y mi propia experiencia como voluntaria en dos bibliotecas, este corto estudio explora el tema de la lectura y los niños en la ciudad boliviana de Cochabamba. Aunque no se ha visto mucha acción a nivel nacional con respeto a la lectura, hay varios individuos, bibliotecas, y espacios quienes están motivados y dedicados a cambiar el estado de la lectura infantil en Cochabamba. Espero que este estudio sirva como un punto de partida para investigar y desarrollar más a fondo el contexto actual de la lectura infantil.
The focus on literacy, both child and adult literacy, can be seen all around the world. Organizations at local, national, and international levels have emerged to combat the ever-present problem of illiteracy. It seems that in Bolivia, there have also been challenges in creating a culture of reading in children, both within and outside the school context. Through interviews and my own experience as a volunteer at two libraries, this short research project explores the relationship between reading and children in the Bolivian city of Cochabamba. Although not much has been done to promote reading at the national level, there are various motivated individuals, libraries and social spaces who are dedicated to changing the reality of reading in Cochabamba. I hope this study will serve as a starting point for further research on this topic.
