Abstract

The Afro-Bolivian population has recently become visible and politically influential in Bolivian society. The government of Evo Morales has recognized the Afro-Bolivian people as an indigenous people, implementing a law against discrimination and designating the saya as Afro-Bolivian cultural property. In addition, people of African descent are leaving Los Yungas and migrating to the cities in search of opportunities; however, the area still has an ancestral meaning. The documentary will try to capture and preserve the knowledge they have of the plants and explore how the relations of transmission of knowledge have changed. With the movement and evolution of the Afro-Bolivian population, the research will explore the impact of the loss of the Awichos and the migration of young people to the city. Beyond medicine, the documentary will explore the issues of education and identity.
