Abstract

Museums and memorials are central vehicles through which society can commemorate and share past events today. They have the ability to tell the story through objects, media, artifacts; tangible objects, not words only.
This is a comparative research in which I start by observing the places of memory in Santiago and Buenos Aires that recall the victims of the dictatorship in each country. I will focus on how memory spaces function to teach this story, the way each space commemorates the victims and how these monuments and museums serve as reparations to "state terrorism."
By completing interviews, guided visits and observations of participants in these memory spaces, their purpose in today's society was analyzed.
