Abstract

At present, the color green carries with it an almost unquestionable association to the movement for legal abortion in Argentina. Despite this high profile of the movement known as the green tide, one traversed by the history of the movement reveals a large gap in the dialogue regarding the inclusion of people who are not cis women, like trans men who also abort.

Informed by interviews with Argentine trans activists and the observation of a meeting of the National Campaign for the Right to Legal, Safe and Free Abortion, this research considers the inclusion (or lack thereof) of trans men in the movement for legal abortion in Argentina. I will present the most relevant topics for trans activists with experience in the participation of this struggle on the many layers that exist between the feminist movement and the movement for the rights of the LGBTI people. Through the analysis of the tensions that exist in this intersection, this research explores underlying theoretical issues that question the assumed definitions of gender and who is the subject of sexual and non-reproductive rights.
