Abstract

In Morocco, Islam is the dominant force. Within Islam, it has been debated that woman are held back. This is evident by the manner in which women participate in economy, are given fair education, and their role in society. These issues are only larger in rural areas, where illiteracy rates and education levels amongst women are abysmal. While there is much evidence and discussion regarding the role of women, there is very limited work regarding how women can improve their lives, and the necessary forces required for these changes to happen. This paper seeks to examine the role of women in Moroccan society and their importance to the future development of Morocco.
