This presentation explores the nexus between language, culture, and worldview, and implications for our profession. Positing that language proficiency alone is inadequate for effective and appropriate communication, additional competencies are examined that are needed for dealing inter-culturally. This expanded view of language presents new opportunities and new challenges for the language educator.
