Abstract

The intent of this training was to contrast "sink or swim" cross-cultural immersion with a carefully planned one-day workshop during which participants could acquire information about a culture of which they had little or no knowledge. The information included in the workshop was deemed important through a needs assessment previously administered to the participants, and by the trainers who have extensive experience in cross-cultural living. This workshop was conducted under the following pretense: the participants played the role of consultants who had been selected by their U.S.A. based company to work with an NGO in rural Morocco for a period of one year. This workshop can be adapted to train participants to live and work effectively in most cross-cultural situations.
