Abstract
Our training was on the topic of understanding diversity. For the purpose of a three-hour training, we chose to focus on one aspect, more specifically cultural diversity. We felt it was necessary to discuss different definitions of culture and diversity and how they are influenced by our socialization. We spent much time processing these definitions to frame the discussions and follow-up questions in the training. Our original intent was to emphasize similarities, however throughout our preparations, the focus shifted to valuing differences in ways that sometimes emphasized our similarities and sometimes didn't.
