Abstract
Host family training is often overlooked as programs try to prepare students for their cultural immersion experiences. However, host families experience serious adjustments in their routines and family dynamics as they absorb a new child. The shock the family experiences when the foreign student leaves is usually unexpected by new host families and a fear for more experienced host families because it can cause such strong emotional reactions from deep sadness and loneliness to anger and frustration. This training focuses on preparing host families for their host students' departures about a month before the students leave.
