Abstract
This paper details the Community English Program at Salem Harbor Community Development Corporation in Salem, Massachusetts and provides a guide for volunteer ESOL teachers at this agency. This program, which was developed in 2002 by the author of this paper, serves adults from the mainly-Latino local immigrant community. In the first part of this paper, information is provided about the program's history, purpose, participants, and structure. In the second part, a practical guide provides volunteer teachers with some agency background, and offers a variety of practical tips and advice for using best practices in the ESOL classroom.
